We Built An Office!
If you’re new around here, you may not know that Balloons by F&F was previously known as Frosting & Fringe Events. As an event planning business no real space was needed besides a desk, laptop, and a few drawers to hold writing utensils, notepads, files, and limited event supplies.
When the balloons division of Frosting & Fringe took over due to Covid 19, more space was needed. Because of this, I took over the formal dining room in our Fair Oaks home. It worked for awhile but with a baby on the way in 2021, we knew we were going to need that space back.
We figured we had 3 options. Buy a new house with a bigger work space, rent an office, or build our own. Due to a variety of reasons, building became our best option and we got to work.
The process wasn’t a simple one. Due to its size, we were required to go through Sacramento County to get all of the proper permits - it was not quick. We hired a builder and structural engineer but my husband and father-in-law did most of the designing of the actual structure. To be honest, I was SO sick while pregnant with our daughter that I let them run with the bulk of it. I just knew I wanted to play a large role in the design of the inside.
From submitting permits to moving in, the total process was about 7 months. It took longer than we were hoping but I am in love with the finished product. It works so well for the stage of life we’re in now and what I need out of a dedicated work space. I love that it is separate from our house but close enough to escape the craziness of home life without having to get in a car.
My friend and photographer, Ashley, recently shot some photos of the space. They bring me so much joy because the whole build was a labor of love. Take a look at them and let me know what you think.
XO, Jess
